Reporting Relationships Director of Engineering
Main Responsibilities:
Develop requirements for electrical and mechanical components for China local source based on existing product design, datasheet and current oversea vendor information. Determine key parameters for component substitute and work with the purchasing and QC&QA departments to qualify new suppliers. Maintain or track the configuration documentation, bill of materials, engineering change order (ECO) and technical coordination memo (TCM) for assigned products on a central data system. Conduct failure analysis of assigned products from manufacture factory and customer field. Troubleshoot product hardware to determine failure root cause and recommend solution for improvement. Provide necessary assist and recommendation for product assembly, test and installation in factory and field. Provide the design engineering with performance information from factory test results and filed operation for product continuous improvement. Supervise and train other product engineers. Provide personal performance evaluation for engineers under supervision. Work with other engineering and business departments on global location. Maintain a proactive posture towards hardware standardization for reusability and quality. Perform other duties as required.
Decision Making Authority:
Has authority to recommend electrical and mechanical components for their specifications, voltage and power ratings, manufacturer selection, etc. Has authority to recommend qualification process for components substitute and vendor qualification with concurrence of relevant project engineer. Has authority to determine test plan for troubleshooting. Has authority to recommend design changes. Has authority to recommend test plans on component level and product level. Has authority to recommend assembly processes and installation methods. Follow company purchasing authorization procedures.
General Profile:
Master or BSEE in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field. At least 5-8 years experience in electrical product design and manufacturing or a combination of schooling and work experience. Minimum 2 years previous supervision experience is required.Ability to work independently and willing to coach other engineers. Solid knowledge about high voltage power electronics such as AC/DC converter and inverter. Solid knowledge about electrical components, electrical design, stress and loss analysis. Excellent skill in trouble shooting and in developing solutions to design problems. Familiar with electrical schematics and standard drawing symbols. Familiar with mechanical drawings and standard symbols. Knowledge of manufacture process for basic electrical/mechanical components such as printed circuit board assembly. Familiar with high voltage and high power systems. Familiar with analog and digital electronic circuits, including microprocessor. Knowledge about product design, qualification and manufacturing. Knowledge of control theory and embedded software. Familiar with lab instruments such as digital oscilloscope, signal generator and power supply. Knowledge of EMI and EMC. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; good in English. Self-motivated in team-oriented work environment. Ability to work independently and willing to coach other engineers.
